The Basics

Four guys riding their bikes on the Natchez Trace Parkway from Jackson, MS to Nashville, TN, roughly 400 miles, during the week of May 19th  (next week!).  I'm from Maine, Dave is from Oregon, Tom and Steve are from California.

  1. What is the Natchez Trace?
It is a pathway used by Native Americans and animals turned into a 8' wide postal and military route in the early 1800's. It's was also used as a short cut by boaters to get back from New Orleans to Nashville after delivering goods down the Mississippi River. The route was treacherous and risky for the traveler encountering wild life, villains, and robbers along the way. The route fell out of service in the 1820s as steam ships became the preferred way to travel up the Mississippi.
